SU2 propeller simulation

I would like to simulate analytically designed propeller with optimum distribution of circulation. I would like to ask if it is possible to load the periodic mesh from the Pointwise to SU2. I know that there is some possibility to save the mesh from Pointwise to SU2
Does this mesh must be somehow adjusted ? I know that the periodic utility is part of SU2.
I tried to run the tutorial case and it converged after 200 iterations.
Maybe I will want to use parallel RANS simulation with SA model. Is there a huge difference between RANS and Euler (i mean thrust ans power)?
I want to use this simulation for Ffows Williams Hakwings noise analysis.

Thanks a lot, Ivan. :)

Hi Ivan,

Glad to hear that you're interested in propeller simulations in SU2. Indeed, there is a plugin available within the latest versions of Pointwise that will allow you to export your mesh directly to SU2 native format.

If the mesh is set up for periodic boundary conditions, these boundaries must be processed with the SU2_PBC module. A description of the process can be found in the thread here: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/su2...-tutorial.html.

I would recommend trying out the rotating frame capability in the code under the dynamic mesh options. This will offer an efficient (steady) method for calculating the flow around a rotating body. Both Euler and RANS simulations in a rotating frame are now possible in the latest version of SU2. Please see the tutorial here for more information on these options: http://adl.stanford.edu/docs/display...tating+Airfoil.

I hope this helps get you started!
Tom

propeller simulation

Hi Thomas

Is there a way to get the file ActuatorDisk.su2 to simulate the propeller example with SU2 ?

Thanks a lot :)
