can anyone give any information for computing two point correlations on unstructured grids?

For example, say one wanted to compute the streamwise two point correlations in channel flow from instantaneous LES data. It is straightforward when the grid is rectangular. But what if the grid was block unstructured, or in the worse case composed entirely of tetrahedral elements?

Is there a way to compute the two point correlations on the tetrahedral grid or must one resort to interpolating the data onto a rectangular grid?
