Following position for promising student still available as of April 2013 FINAL YEAR PROJECT / MASTER THESIS / DIPLOMARBEIT ################################################# Title: Simulation of particle deposition in turbulent flows Background: The Institute of Fluid Dynamics of the research centre Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf investigates the transport, deposition and resuspension of nuclear aerosols in advanced gas cooled reactors (GEN IV, HTR). Radioactive graphite particles deposits and/or reenters the turbulent flow during operation in the primary circuit. The amount of nuclear aerosol dust that might escape from the primary circuit to the containment in the event of a depressurisation is a key issue for the development and certification of these reactors. Tasks: The effect of wall roughness on deposition of aerosol particles in turbulent flows is to be investigated. The work will involve implementation/improvement of a LES model in OpenFOAM. It will then be coupled with a particle-tracking algorithm.
