Title:
Assessment of a simulation method for evaporating diesel sprays

Background:
The Advanced Injection and Combustion Engineering of DELPHI Diesel Systems 
(Bascharage, Luxembourg) is developing Diesel injection systems and conducting 
research on engine combustion for the automotive industry. CFD is becoming an 
important tool for the optimization of the injectors with regards to spray, 
mixture preparation and combustion. 
The purpose of the internship is to improve the current simulation methodology 
based on AVL FIRE and to correlate experimental and computational results.

Tasks:
•	Setup of computational models
•	simulation of spray, evaporation, combustion 
•	Assessment of influence of numerical parameters
•	Comparison to experimental results
•	Synthesis of results in a methodology report

Qualifications:
•	Master or Final year of university studies in 
Mechanical/Automotive/Chemical Engineering (or related field) 
•	Strong fundamental knowledge in Fluid Dynamics, Multiphase systems, 
Heat and Mass Transfer and numerical methods
•	Strong analytical skills
•	Knowledge of CFD and Meshing tools 
•	Strong interpersonal and inter-cultural skills
•	English language skills
