| Description: | |
Phd Position in hydrodynamic stability and aeroacoustics, sept /oct 2013- sept/oct. 2016 Early Stage Researcher Marie Curie FP7 AeroTraNet 2 (Aircraft engine noise and land-based engine design for power): One 3-year fixed-term PhD Fellowship in ‘jet plumes stability and noise sensitivity to perturbations analysis’, AeroTraNet2 Programme: A new Aeronautical Training Network is funded to train Early Stage Researchers and Experienced Researchers in front-line, integrated, industry relevant research in unsteady aerodynamics and noise for the next generation of environmentally friendly wide-body civil aircraft. Building upon the multi-host EST FP6 programme AeroTraNet, AeroTraNet 2 clusters the complementary expertise of 5 established European academic institutes, 2 EU multi-national companies, 1 SME, and one national research centre to offer structured, flexible, well-integrated, à la carte, doctoral and post-doctoral training programme for the new generation of EU aerodynamics and noise specialists. Six academic partners address the common objective of modeling shock cell noise in a wide-body aircraft engine configuration from private sector partner Airbus France, by shock-tolerant numerical modeling for under-expanded jets (University of Leicester), large eddy simulations for turbulent jets with weak shocks (Cerfacs), advanced flow-noise correlations (Universita Degli Studi Roma Tre), jet and near-field noise experiments (VKI), stability, receptivity and flow control (IMFT-INP), and advanced laser-based measurement techniques (INSEAN). In AeroTraNet 2, the research output becomes itself object of knowledge management research, which is a novel supra-disciplinary element. By combining their well- established doctoral training schools and graduate training programmes, the academic and industrial partners will train a well-integrated team to push forward the state of the art of shock cell noise prediction applied to aircraft design. Objectives of the Work Package: (1)Develop a low computational cost model of the shear-layer instability modes in the co-axial jet, which takes into account the shock-cell system in the bypass stream, based on the Parabolized Stability Equations (2) Provide in the base of adjoint equations an extension to receptivity and sensitivity of the noise to various possible perturbations or forcing, related to aeroacoustic control, (3) Associated to an acoustic simulation based on linearized Euler equations, propose a numerically low-cost tool for predicting shock-cell noise. Submission : The fellowship is open to applicants graduated with a first class or 2.1 MSc/master 2 degree or its equivalent in the discipline of Mechanical and/or Aeronautical Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Mathematics with Engineering. In addition, the applicant has to satisfy the ESR eligibility criteria stated in Section III.3.2 (a) and (b) ( ftp://ftp.cordis.europa.eu/pub/fp7/docs/fp7-mga-annex3intramulti_en.pdf). Good level in English is required. French speaking will be welcome. The successful applicant will be hosted in the aerodynamic research group at the IMFT (https://www.imft.fr/Single-phase-transitional-and), Toulouse, register for PhD with the INP university. Annual gross salary, inclusive of living and mobility allowances, is at the EU Marie Curie ESR rate amount to approximately 50 k€. The network actively promotes the participation of women in science. Suitably qualified female and male candidates are invited to send an up-to-date CV, research motivation, and transcript of studies in pdf files, with names and contacts of two referees to : Prof. C. Airiau at Christophe.Airiau@imft.fr Closing date: 30/05/2013, PS : it is a european Marie project, EC students are preferred but third party country students are also eligible. |
