Description:
CD-adapco is the world's largest independent CAE-focused provider of engineering simulation software, support, and services. We are seeking a Technical Author for our Documentation team, currently distributed between several offices in Europe and the US. This team is responsible for producing end-user documentation, tutorials, best practice guides, and other technical information, for the company's CAE products—particularly STAR-CCM+ and STAR-CD. Areas of physics that our software can model include single phase flow, multiphase flow, heat transfer, rigid body motion, electrochemistry, combustion, and stress analysis.

Our ideal candidate is an author with several years’ experience in writing end-user documentation for technical software. We are also open to candidates who wish to move into technical writing as a career, and can demonstrate an ability to explain things well in written English.

As a Technical Author at CD-adapco, you will be expected to:

• Explore new features of CD-adapco software during the development cycle. Software functions include CAD, geometry, meshing, physics, analysis, and visualization.
• Work closely with developers, application experts, support engineers, and other internal staff to gather technical knowledge appropriate for documentation.
• Write clear and consistent material that conforms to our internal standards and best practices for technical communication.
• Be involved in work that supports the documentation process, such as maintaining Java scripts for our automated tutorials testing harness.
• Contribute to strategic developments in the documentation process. Current developments include the application of linguistic processing software to improve the consistency of written text, and a project to migrate our documentation to DITA/XML.

As an applicant for this position, you must:

• Be able to demonstrate that you can explain things well in written English. Our selection process includes a test of writing.
• Have a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Mechanical, Chemical, or Aeronautical Engineering. Physics, Mathematics, and other Sciences are also appropriate.
• Be comfortable with working in a distributed development environment where international conference calls are required on a regular basis.
• Be able and willing for occasional travel to other CD-adapco offices in Europe and the US.

Experience in the following will be an advantage:

• Computer Aided Engineering tools and methods (for example, CFD, FEA, or CAD tools)
• Adobe FrameMaker, WebWorks ePublisher, or other publishing systems
• Structured content strategies, DITA/XML, XSL transformations
• Linux OS, shell scripting, and Java programming

All employment is decided on the basis of qualifications, merit and business needs.

Applicants for this position will be expected to work from the London office. Applications should be made by emailing a CV, including the names of two referees, and a covering letter stating why you believe you are suited to this position.
