TitlePhD Studentship in CFD Modelling of Nanoparticle Formation
CategoryPhD Studentship
EmployerImperial College London
LocationUnited Kingdom, London
InternationalYes, international applications are welcome
Closure DateThursday, June 20, 2013
Description:
Applications are invited for a research studentship in the field of stochastic
modelling of nanoparticle formation, leading to the award of a PhD degree. The
post is supported by a bursary and fees (at the UK/EU student rate) provided by
a DTA award. The studentship is for three years from October 2012 and is
available for UK and EU candidates meeting the Research Council criterion of
having been resident in the UK for the previous three years.

The research involves the development of a methodology for modelling
polydispersed nanoparticle formation in turbulent flows with state of the art
computational methods, including Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) for modelling of
turbulent flow, Population Balance for modelling the evolution of the particle
size distribution (PSD) and the Stochastic Field method for the interaction of
fluid dynamics and nanoparticle growth. The candidate will work with advanced
codes developed within our group over a number of years and will interact with a
group of experienced researchers working in this field.

You will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who meets the academic
requirements for enrolment for the PhD degree at Imperial College London. You
will have a background in Engineering or Science, be highly motivated, strong
analytical and computational skills and a keen interest in programming and
numerical methods. Appropriate training will be provided in the modelling
approaches involved and in programming techniques.

For further details on the post, please contact Dr S Rigopoulos
s.rigopoulos@imperial.ac.uk. Interested applicants should send an up-to-date
curriculum vitae to Dr Rigopoulos on the above e-mail address. Suitable
candidates will be required to complete an electronic application form at
