New developments in electronic components often mean the downsizing of the 
devices, which increases the heat fluxes generated by the electronic 
components. Conventional cooling systems are no longer adequate to remove the 
aforementioned heat fluxes from these components. So, these systems will have 
to be replaced or enhanced by other performant and compact cooling techniques 
like liquid-vapour phase change and vapour chambers. Vapour chambers have 
demonstrated inherent advantages and potential for the thermal management of 
electronic components due to high thermal conductivity, reliability and low 
weight penalty. The heat transfer capability of all heat transfer devices 
including vapour chamber is limited by the working fluid transport properties. 
So, the heat transfer rate of vapour chambers can be increased by adding solid 
nanoparticles to the working fluid (nanofluids) of the vapour chamber to change 
the fluid transport properties and flow features. The heat transfer can also be 
increased by improving the surface micro or nanostrucation. In this thesis 
project, we’ll study: 
-	Nanofluids sessile drops evaporation using infrared measurements
-	Effect of the surface roughness on the drops evaporation and 
nanoparticles deposition patterns using 3D tomography measurements
-	 Optimization of the surface micro or nanostructuration and application 
to the heat pipes devices
This thesis will be a joint project between the Lamih-Tempo labs at the 
University of Valenciennes (France), the university of Liverpool and the 
University of Edinburgh.
