Closure DateTuesday, July 15, 2014
The Building Physics Section at the Department of Civil Engineering at Leuven
University is searching for an outstanding candidate for a PhD study on CFD
simulations of the ventilation of airplane cabins. The first supervisors will be Bert Blocken. A collaboration with Airbus
is being established for this project.

The project consists of the development, verification and validation of CFD
models and CFD simulations for the ventilation of airplane cabins. The CFD
simulations are performed with RANS and LES. The simulations are validated with
full-scale measurements with air as medium and reduced-scale measurement with
water as medium. The measurements will be performed with Laser-Doppler
Anemometry (LDA) and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The LDA measurements will
be performed at Eindhoven University in the Netherlands and possibly also at
Airbus in Hamburg in Germany, while the PIV measurements will be performed at
Leuven University.

The applicant will develop a research proposal with the supervisors during
August 2014 to jointly apply for the research funding. The starting date of the
PhD study is October 2014.

Applicants must have achieved a Master's degree (possibly ManaMa,
Master-after-Master) which fits with the PhD project, with at least a
