Commercialization of a fermentation process in the Biotech, CPI and the Alternative Energy Industry has two key aspects. The first involves finding the right strains of bacteria to create a desired product. The second piece is to maximize the production from these strains using efficient engineering processes. This means that dissolution and transfer of oxygen and safety of the scale-up process need to be aligned with (critical/relevant) economic factors. As the complexity of these operations continues to increase, poor scale-up designs lead to incrementally lower production yield, higher material cost, and reduced bottom-line. (Details)

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and Discrete Element Method (DEM) have been identified as key enabling technologies in finding solutions to many of the challenges surrounding scale-up, and are capable of reducing operating costs across manufacturing and quality divisions.

Who Should Attend?
  • If you are an engineer or a manager who wants to troubleshoot problems, analysis led design and development, choosing best alternative solutions to reduce time-to-market, this event will help you understand the applicability of deploying simulation as a design and analysis tool.
  • If you are venture capitalist/financier, this workshop will give you insights into how technology can be utilized to reduce lead time on your investments in the gas-to-liquids, alternative energy and gas-to- chemicals portfolios.
  • If you are already using CFD in your engineering work flow, this session will show you the strength of STAR- CCM+® meshing, workflow and physics models for some of the most challenging problems in the industry.
