London, UK, July 05, 2011, Advanced Design Technology, Ltd., or ADT, a global leader in the development of advanced turbomachinery design methods, is pleased to announce that ebm-papst St. Georgen, a global market leader in the development of high quality fans and motors for many markets such as heating and air-conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, automotive, IT/Telecom and drive technology, applied TURBOdesign1 - 3D inverse design code - to the design of high efficiency compact multi-blade row fans.

In the design of axial multi-row fans it is very important to have a good matching between the components. TURBOdesign1’s 3D inverse design method, provides direct control of spanwise work distribution and blade loading and enables good matching between different blade rows.

“The possibility to generate different designs in a fast and robust way makes TURBOdesign1 an integral part of the work flow for designing multi-row fans with guide vanes at ebm-papst St. Georgen.”, commented Ralf Haermeyer and Matthias Weiss, R&D Engineers Aerodynamics at ebm-papst St. Georgen, “After using TURBOdesign1 for a number of years, we now consider it our standard design tool for radial, diagonal and axial fans.”

The case study highlights how TURBOdesign1 allows design engineers to quickly develop new multi-row fans with matching components, speeding up the overall design process.
