Intelligent Light Announces Availability of FIELDVIEW 8.2

Introduces Advanced CFD Post-Processing Features

Newest version of powerful post processor is currently shipping to customers

Lyndhurst, NJ (November 25, 2002) - Intelligent Light, a leading provider of visualization software products and services for the scientific and engineering industries, today announced the launch of FIELDVIEW 8.2, an improved version of its post processor for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) applications. Based in large part to customer feedback, FIELDVIEW 8.2 integrates a number of innovative features that enable more efficient, productive post-processing applications.

"Intelligent Light is constantly listening to our customers for new ideas and new ways to enhance our industry-leading CFD post processor," said Steve M. Legensky, Founder and General Manager of Intelligent Light. "I'm pleased to bring our customers FIELDVIEW 8.2. It's just another way we work to help users understand and present their CFD data."

One of the major new capabilities is the dataset comparison, which permits easy visual and numerical comparison between two or more datasets whose grids are topologically similar. A "Dataset Comparison" mode in the CFD Calculator allows the creation of formulas that may reference quantities of more than one dataset. Users can also compare between different timesteps, in an unsteady case, to examine perturbations.

"Dataset comparison provides CFD users for the first time with a convenient numerically precise and visually clear way to speed the design iteration process. Comparing alternative designs or different operating conditions is simple, fast and easy to automate, " said Mr. Legensky.

Another main feature in FIELDVIEW 8.2 is the addition of blended transparency, enabling users to create the highest quality presentations and animations. This new method is now the default for rendering on most platforms. There is also a Precise Rendering mode, which provides an accurate solution for rendering intersecting transparent surfaces.

FIELDVIEW 8.2 also offers new functionality for FVX(tm), the advanced component that enables customization and automation for end users. FVX lets users read datasets, create and manipulate surfaces, and perform complex quantitative post-processing tasks using a real programming language. Many users have already put FVX to work for them, automating post-processing and streamlining day-to-day operations.

Other advanced FIELDVIEW 8.2 features include:

Restarts that apply to the Current dataset FIELDVIEW 8.2 provides a new restart capability that permits users to take a completed visualization from one dataset and apply it to another in order to make side-by-side comparisons.

Separate grid and results files for FIELDVIEW Unstructured data In the past, all solutions that were stored in FIELDVIEW Unstructured format had the grid and results variable in a single file. There are inherent inefficiencies in this method. FIELDVIEW 8.2 introduces a reader that handles the current "combined" grid and results file as well as separate grid and results files.

Increased addressable memory under Windows XP/Professional The amount of addressable memory available for a process in Windows is normally 2 GB. FIELDVIEW 8.2 supports the /3GB boot command, increasing the limit to 3GB so users can handle larger data.

Re-use of Grid for certain Plot3D and FV-UNS cases When users are comparing two or more datasets with the same grid, or just reading them multiple times to create a side-by-side view, FIELDVIEW will now automatically re-use the grid memory and other resources for the appended datasets. This speeds up read-in time, since a lot of analysis of the grid takes place upon reading. It also reduces the amount of memory space that is needed to read the datasets.

Transient Optimizations Data file reading and memory usage have been optimized to greatly increase performance when multiple datasets are on the screen or when the grid is invariant. Support for Flow-3D(r) Version 8 FIELDVIEW is now compatible with Version 8 of the Flow-3D CFD code from Flow Science, which introduced multi-grid solutions.

Linux Extractor for client-server and parallel FIELDVIEW A new Linux/Intel port of the FIELDVIEW extractor is now available.
