The CD adapco Group has announced its award of prizes to three authors of Ph.D. theses who it considers have made especially significant contributions in the area of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).

Entries to the competition were accepted from academic establishments world-wide and after an overwhelming response, the committee has finally agreed on three winners to receive cash prizes of $5000 US, $2000 US and $1000 US.

The first prize is awarded to Suman Chakraborty at the Indian Institute of Technology for his thesis: 'Studies of momentum, heat and mass transfer in binary alloy solidification processes'.

The second prize is awarded to David Vanden Abeele from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. The title of his thesis is: 'An efficient computational model for inductively coupled air plasma flows under thermal and chemical non-equilibrium'.

And lastly the third prize is awarded to Elmar Walhorn of the Technical University of Braunschweig for his thesis: 'A simultaneous numerical method for fluid-structure interaction with space-time finite elements'.

The CFD thesis prize has been established as a permanent institution of the CD adapco Group to stimulate research in CFD and prizes will continue to be awarded every year.

Milovan Peric, Director of product development operations for the CD adapco Group says, " We are extremely happy with the response to our award announcement last year and expect it to become a respected distinction within the CFD community in the future."
