Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to mesh a fan, but I am facing some difficulties when it comes to the mesh of the boundary layers.

I tried to use the function "layers" that ANSA proposes but it came with many problems around the interface between the blade and the casing.

Therefore I tried to use the hexa-blocking module in order to build a correct mesh manually around the blade. In the past I meshed in 2D on ICEM CFD and thus I have tried to follow the same scheme (building various blocks meeting the shape of the blade) but with another dimension. Unfortunately when I want to build a O-grid around the blade, ANSA just "extrudes" the blocks I have made toward the top.

I will not go in further details now, but just wanted to ask if someone happened to use ANSA for the meshing of a compressor blade (with the casing) ? And how did you do it (structured or un-structured mesh for instance) ?

I must say that I don't find a lot of informations on the Internet, so if anyone has a correct tutorial for me I will be soooo happy (I already have the one with the pipe)

PS : I want to use ANSA for fluid mechanics purposes, not structural : I am only interested to the global behaviour of the fan such as the mass flow generated at the inlet.

Thanks again !

Thomas

Dear Thomas

Unstructured meshing is always easier to make than structured.
What exactly do you mean by problems between the blades
and the casing?
Are the blades connected in your CFD model, or is there a small gap
that you want to resolve?
Can you attach some images of the problem, for better understanding?

Best regards
