Blue cross-hatch surfaces

So I've been visited by these little devils and the only way that I can get rid of them is by manually deleting the associated shell elements, after which I have to set the faces to a temp PID which I then delete.

I noticed that they only show up after certain auto-fixes have been applied, but I'm not sure that's what cause them.

What's the meaning behind them and how are they supposed to be used.

I'd be fine with either direct reference to it on the help guides or just a general idea of where to look.

I believe what you are referring to are frozen CONS. Basically, these entities are frozen such that they cannot be modified. To get rid of them, there should be a button called "Freeze/Unfreeze" which can be used to toggle between a modifiable entity and a frozen entity. I can't remember fully, but you may need to use the right mouse button to unfreeze.

That may be it.

I'm not referring to frozen cons but frozen surfaces, but perhaps the unFreeze command might do what I'm looking for. These surfaces usually have those yellow weld-spots on the perimeter and are usually the face for surface mesh cells which have become disassociated from the original surface where the surface mesh was originated.

This happens when I do a layer volume mesh but then have to do a surface mesh operation which will delete it. The surfaces which are affected are usually those which don't have layers but are joined to a surface which does, like for example the symmetry or inlet/outlet patches perpendicular to the road patch in the CFD external aero tutorial.
