Hi everyone,
I'm trying to simulate a rotating machine and i am having some dificulties setting the named selections in the meshing. Do i have to separate the body in two diferent parts (rotor and stator)? Do i have to declare as a wall the separation between the rotor and the stator? Thank you. |

My main problem is that I donīt know how to do all the named selection in the meshing. Do i have to name the bodies? Or only the surfaces? Fluent is giving me the following mistake:

maybe you have same regions with 2 or more names.

i've been working in a simplified model, using the following named selections:
-Fluid (aplied to all the bodies) -Wall (All the stationary walls) -Pressure-inlet (Inlet face) -Pressure-outlet (Outlet face) -Interface-inlet (face between rotor and stator in the inlet) -Interface-outlet (face between rotor and stator in the outlet) And Fluent show me the following mistake: ********************* WARNING ****************************************** ************************************************** ********************** ** Following expected zones were not found in the current mesh: ** part-solid ** wall-part-solid ** interior-part-solid ** Found Following new zones in the current mesh: ** interior-fluid ** wall-fluid ** fluid ** ** Please ensure that your current Setup is valid. ************************************************** ********************** ************************************************** ********************** What changes should i do in the named selections? |

I think this mistake comes from the previously loaded mesh in fluent.
Are you using the workbench environment? Anyway, before trying anything else, replace the mesh in fluent. (mesh - replace) I am pretty sure that you need two cell zones for a rotor-stator setup. The faces belonging to the distinct cell zones have to be in different named selections. Doesn't the fluent manual provide any guidance about the setup? |

Iīve tried changing the named selection in the mesh, and this time iīve put them like this:
fluid-estator (stationary-body) fluid-rotor (rotating-body) wall-estator (stationary wall faces) wall-rotor (moving wall faces) interface-rotor-inlet (common face between rotor and stator in the inlet) interface-rotor-outlet (common face between rotor and stator in the outlet) interface-estator-inlet (common face between rotor and stator in the inlet) interface-estator-outlet (common face between rotor and stator in the outlet) pressure-inlet pressure-outlet The warning i got in fluent was the following: ********************* WARNING ****************************************** ************************************************** ********************** ** Following mesh operations failed: ** Rename Zone wall to wall-exterior (Failed) ** Following expected zones were not found in the current mesh: ** part-solid ** wall-part-solid ** interior-part-solid ** interface-outlet ** interface-inlet ** wall-exterior ** Found Following new zones in the current mesh: ** interior-fluid-estator ** interior-fluid-rotor ** wall-estator ** wall-rotor ** interface-rotor-outlet ** interface-rotor-inlet ** interface-estator-inlet ** interface-estator-outlet ** fluid-estator ** fluid-rotor ** ** Please ensure that your current Setup is valid. ************************************************** ********************** ************************************************** ********************** I've separate the body into two parts, consisting in the moving body(rotor) and the stationary body(estator). So? did you replace the mesh? Is it Workbench you are using?

All right, one last try. In the Fluent GUI, click on "mesh" -> "replace mesh" and select the mesh you just created.

In this reply i've attached the file i'm working with. As i said before, my problem is that i donīt know how to define the named selections.
The model is divided in one part consisting of three bodies (all stationary) and one body (the rotating one). The interior is fluid (air). Thanks for the support. |
