[ICEM] what is the strategy to block this geometry?

Oh, it is open. In old file there was no extended surface on roof. If there is extended surface then energy382 is suggesting the right approach.

nevertheless, it's not a closed surface, so if you want to insert y-block, you've to insert additional surfaces.
Hi energy382, the problem is solved. I need to add six surfaces to enclosed it. Thank you.

No, your blocking is destroyed. Need to do a new one.

You've to improve mesh quality (edge parameters, smoothing etc). Don't have time to do this too.

Hi energy382, thank you for the help. I made the new one yesterday and generate relatively good mesh quality. May I ask why the block is destroyed since I have the same steps to operate the block? I also would like to ask if there should not be any single surface (not closed surface) in the geometry? Thanks a lot.

Yes, you should always use a closed volume. If there's a non-closed volume in your real geometry, this is always either an inlet, opening or outlet (and therefore, you have to create a new surface)

Even if you have periodic boundaries (e.g. turbine blade passage), you should at least create a part with a single point within, where you project your faces to. Otherwise, ICEM always project edges to closest surface.

Hello All,

I want to do analysis of heat transfer from water flowing through pipes submerged inside concrete. I am modelling in GAMBIT and wish to analyse it on Ansys FLUENT.

Can anybody help me out, how to model and simulate?

Does any tutorials exist?

Hi energy382, thank you for the explaination. After I check the mesh, I got some error information of multiple edges and non-manifold vertices. May I ask what cuases these errors and how should I fix it? Thank you.

I guess, you've forgotten to merge vertices after creating y-grid!?

(2) merge the vertex
(3) create y-block
(4) generate the mesh

you've to do two y-blocks right? (right and left side)
you've to merge the vertices, where the two edges (vertical) of the y-blocks match.

compare my blocking with your blocking at this area.

Hi energy382, I do the two y-blocks at the same time. I tried to merge the vertex where these two y-blocks meet, but it still gives me the information that the vertex is unique? Is it possible that the vertex already merged when I generate the two y-blocks at the same time? Thank you. BTW, I cannot see your block.

Hi energy382, the problem has been solved. The mesh is fine. I did not merge the vertexs where the two y-block meets (I generated them at the same time, I could not perform the 'merge vertex' operation at all). Thank you for the help.
