need help to use ICEM CFD as mesher

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all
Dear FAr & Simon, both look ICEM CFD users. Could any one of you help me to generate my mesh. I attached my geometry in order to help.
PLease.
I try it many times but it comes wrong with me.
I import the geometry using file/workbench readers
and then set the boundaries and add material and do bloking and then spilt the block to capture the features of my geometry
then do O-grid as well as, I associate the curves with necessary curves
and then set the size of my mesh and then do pre-mesh finally I save the mesh as .uni file and open it to export the ansys cfx mesh (.msh).
But all of that do not give me any good mesh.
Please give me seruis hand to do.Or do it and send it to me via this mail

Upload your .blk file. I can check it and give you advice, but I don't have time to make a new one....that's your task ;)

Hi Safia

Find the blocking. Need to adjust the edge mesh parameters are per requirements.

oops forgot to add the o-grid. I think that is some inlet or outlet...

happy January 2, 2013 20:31

does not work. it needs attribute files (.atr or .fbc)

Thanks Far
did you do hexa mesh or tetra one.
Regards
Safia

Far January 2, 2013 23:04

Hexa

if ICEM asks for something extra just press cancel

thanks

Hi
when I try to view mesh the ICEF CFD gave me this message
User error:no surfaces in family ORFN could not project point
How I can overcome this error?
Regards

Far January 4, 2013 03:48

did you click on the project file to open it?

I am not getting such problem....

happy January 4, 2013 04:35

another queation, please

[QUOTE=Far;400054]did you click on the project file to open it?

Dear FAR,,,,
I got it. After I open I read the surface model of my geometry again with keeping the O-grid. It is working.
BUT the inlet after meshing is square although I made it circular in design modeler file.
So how I can deal with this issue. I want circular inlet nor square.
Any comment can help.
Best Regards

Open the project file

If it does not load the tin and blk then manually add the files.(this may happen as I have renamed the .tin, .blk and .prj files and then zipped them)

1. First open the .tin file I have sent through zip

2. Read the corresponding .blk file. The inlet will be round ;)

1-when I open the tin file, I recieve this message below
Usage: define_curve [tetra_size %d] [name %s] [family %d] [width %d] [nlayers 269225800] [ratio %f] [min %f] [dev %f] (data on following lines)
error executing command: define_curve
error in room_safia_Far_O-grid.tin
can't read surface model
so I cannot see any thing.
2-when I open prj file it requests .tin and .blk files(both exist) but it requests the
atr file too (not exist). even I do cancel I only see square inlet after mesing.
did you draw the model using iCEM CFD or import my geometry on ICEM CFD?
you have not a problem because you have all files.
Really, I appreciate your help, and I wish if you help me solve this matter.

Ok got it. I made these files in R14 and you are using R13. Using the updated version will solve this issue.

thanks for explaination &some equations

Dear Far,,,
Could you please show me in details how you made your mesh? Some of that, I did it before and the rest still non-understandable.
Is the release 14 only can handle this configuration?
The cluster at my university has Re13 so that there are not benefits to do it in Re14(time cost).
I would like to conduct my mesh and simulation using Re13 (no choice).
So could you please show me in private a message?
Your favor will not be forgeable.
Regards

Any version can handle this. But requires hexa license.

No problem. You can make the mesh in rR14 and simulation in R13

HI FOR EVERY ONE
i HAVE PROBLEM WHEN I MESH MY GEOMETRY (QUARTER PIPE WITH ONE PERFORATION) BY HEXA MESH. WHEN I COMPLETED FROM MESH I SENT MY MESH TO CFX BUT CXF OBJECTED AND REFUSE TO COMPLETE THE SOLVER AND THE ERROR ISSUED AS BELOW. HOW CAN I TREAT THIS PROBLEM WITH SYMMETRY BECAUSE I HAVE VERTICAL SYMMETRY ( CONSIST FROM TWO SURFACE (ONE SMALL FOR PERFORATION AND THE OTHER ONE BELOW FROM IT I.E. TOUCH WITH THE UPPER ONE FOR THE PIPE) AND THE OTHER SYMMETRY HORIZONTAL ONE).
I CAN'T MERGE THE UPPER ONE AND LOWER ONE.
WHY THE CFX OBJECTED?
HOW CAN I PASS THIS PROBLEM?

ERROR #002100013 has occurred in subroutine Chk_Splane. |

Question

Dear Far,,,,,
First of all, thanks.
Second, I used Re14 to conduct the simulations; however, when I try to increase the number of meshing, I got something stranger where the mesh not unform completely. If you do not mind, see attached file and please tell me your suggestions for its cause.

Happy

Hi For Everyone
Please can you help me, I am working on my geometry by ICEM-CFD I want to mesh it with Hexa meshing, but I cant because my geometry is complex (pipe 0.022 mm diameter 1300 mm, ten perforations each one has 6mm diameter normal to the surface and the other ten inclined by 30 degree with the z axis. These are perforations held on the first part of the pipe i.e. at 600mm but the other part is blank), I want to do it by hexa because I need to draw the wall shear stress at the wall. I did that by tetra but the result coming from that one the line like a zig-zag.
Thanks in advanced.

You need to align vertices to get the smooth mesh

hi for all
I tried many times to mesh by hexa for my geometry by ICEM-CFD but I faced difficult with it, sometimes I got the solution but without prism layer but I faced the same problem especially when I draw the geometry (quarter pipe), the problem at the CFX-solver as an error below please can anyone help me for hexa and with this problem.

it clearly says that symmetry plane is not in the x-y, x-y or z-x plane.

Hi there
can anyone show me if CFD post can draw customize plane to cover my split channel see fig 1?
pls, see the attached of top view of my configuration.
I would like to improve the plane which appear in fig 2 to conver all area within split channel at Y= value?
Any input can help.

Hi again
another question, can the CFX user draw half circule within CFX-post?
Does from file option can help to define my plane? If so explained to m please.

Hi Far
I meant that define the plane normally (see fig 2) cannot cover whole surface area of flow within split channel because it is not circular totally.
My question is does CFX-post draw customized plane (see fig 3)?
If so could you show me the option to do so?
If CFX-post cannot and another softwrae can do, tell me about it, please.
