Please take a look on the attached image. Does these both setting are equivalent?
If not then what is the what is the purpose of 1st setting (first from left) ? |

there are two ways of generating prism. one way is to do that manually after generating your tetra element. for that you will use the right panel. another way is to generate prism along with the tetra, you will then use the left panel.

Either way is right. Define prism settings in Global mesh setup and check the parts on which you want to grow on, in the Part Mesh setup. The same global values will be used for all the parts i.e no. of layers, height, height ratio etc. But if you want to define different height and height ratios for different parts, then you have it to define these in part mesh setup

Generally (like cfd seeker said) the parameters under global prism settings apply to all of your prism mesh. Except you have defined other local parameters for single parts under prism parts data because local sizes before global sizes. Another way to set these parameters should be part mesh setup.
For example when you have complex geometries it is often useful to set 0 for the global total and initial height. That allows the prism height to float in problematic regions. For unproblematic regions you could then set fixed parameters for prism to meet your desired requirements like y+. |
