Hello everybody,

First I state that I searched a lot for a solution to my problem, here, ICEM Help, on Google, on YouTube, but couldn't find a solution.

For some the problem will be simple, but unfortunately I have only few 2D mesh experiences with ICEM, so I'm still learning how to use it.

The geometry is the one you can see in the first screenshot, it's a portion of a duct (~37°), and at the top there's a (I try to explain the best way I can) "reverse revolution" left by a cone, exactly at the center of the duct.

I would like to ask you some advice on the blocking strategy/edge-to-curve associations in order to obtain a good result.

I already tried something, but as a result I obtain what you can see in "screenshot_premesh" attachment, and I'm pretty sure that there's a wrong association of edges to curves, but I can't find a way to obtain a decent result


I will be very grateful if someone could help me, thank you in advance.

Try blocking like this... You need two O-grids

First thanks for the answer.

Second, actually I used 2 O-Grids, one on the external surface of the "cake" and one on the "cone" surface.

What I've done is a premesh, without any kind of setting, so I'm asking: do you think that what you can see in the second attachment is actually a problem of wrong edge to curve association or simply something that I can solve by setting the right element distribution along the edges?

Yes, more or less, the geometry is exactly what you see in the first screenshot... The only thing I have to correct maybe is that the "cone" is not actually a cone, but a revolution of a curve...

Anyway it seems I'm light years away from the solution, if the blocking strategy I should use is that one of your file

In your opinion which steps should I follow?

You can re-use the blocking I have just attached in post. And it is easy to make this blocking.
