Hi, i'm a beginner in ICEM and have a little problem in meshing. maybe this is a stupid question but I couldn't find any threads covering this issue, If there is any, please suggest it
Well I have this complex geometry that I have meshed in both Gambit and ICEM but with different mesh results.
Here are the images:
This one is a round step-shaped geometry which is meshed fine in Gambit but not in ICEM:

Gambit:

ICEM:

Similary, here are the images of a meshed pillar-shaped geometry, Both meshed using GAMBIT and ICEM:

GAMBIT:

ICEM:

As you can see there are lots of differences between these two meshes.I am unable to get that fine mesh using ICEM.

I tried these:
1) importing Gambit mesh into ICEM and tried to understand how can I do these steps to mesh my geometry:
---a) delete volume mesh
---b) keeping face meshes
---c) do my preferred edits
---d) volume mesh it

Tried a lot, but No Idea how to do these steps! in other words I don't know how to continue meshing a pre-meshed GAMBIT file in ICEM (is it even possible?)

2) I even tried to use Quad dominant mesh type, But as I read some forum posts, I figured out that it is not suitable for CFD cases.

Any help is appreciated,
bests

diamondx will become famous soon enough
use a smaller size for your elements

Hi Ali,
Well that's not the problem. even by reducing mesh size I still can't get a mesh volume like GAMBIT. the other problem is that reducing size too much causes huge number of cells, which I'm trying to avoid.
I wonder if there are any particular meshing procedures in ICEM which i'm not aware of.

Hello.

Why you are interesting tetra mesh rather than hexa? Use the block strategy to generate hexa mesh. It will generate precise mesh with less elements compare to tetra.

Hi Astio,
I will try that. but right now I have no idea what blocking is! maybe I need some study.

Tnx

Try some tutorials. you can find ICEM manual in the internet. Also take a look on this:

If still you have a problem, share your geometry, I will help you.

Thank you Astio.
those tutorials helped a lot.
I wil try meshing my geometry again to see what happens.
