Asymmetric Aerofoil C-Grid

2 Attachment(s)
Dear all,

I've been working on constructing a C-grid for my Selig S3024 aerofoil but I've been trying to deal with the same problem for a while now.

As you can see from the attached images, I've applied mapped meshing to the two square sections and edge sizing bias on all lines, with the semi-circular curve retaining the default no-bias but fixed number of divisions.

The top quarter-circle has a good mesh, but the bottom quarter is horrible and I've been trying all sorts of methods and combinations but it just doesn't seem to want to mesh as the top quarter.

Can anyone help me with this please? It's urgent!

Thanks a lot in advance!

I see a lot of people having just the same problem. Most of them follow the tutorial available in Cornell university.
Sorry i can't help with this one, if you have time, consider doing it in icem...

If you can, upload the geometry file

You may download my geometry file from this dropbox link:

I have been following a number of tutorials, now I'm going through this one - https://confluence.cornell.edu/displ...ometryinGAMBIT

though that is using GAMBIT and I'm not.

Thanks for your replies!

I also followed this tutorial:

https://confluence.cornell.edu/displ...Airfoil+-+Mesh

to the letter but I'm getting an error saying that the mesh could not be generated due to poor quality elements or incorrect input.

I am using the sweep tool to sweep the mesh on the surface shown across a thickness of 0.05m and I am also getting an error saying that I should change the element size parameters.

I guess edges were not matching in the region where mesh is not mapped

Hello Far,

Thanks for your reply! But unfortunately my version of the program is older so I cannot open the file you've attached. Could you kindly explain what the problem was? I've switched from 3D to 2D and so I'm not experiencing the problem anymore.

Thanks once again

Kurt

Tried in v14.5, but will probably work in your version as well. Skip the step about Mapped faces. Instead just set your edge sizes and insert a Method, choose Multizone, selecting all bodies, with the following settings:

that looks awesome!

Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated

Made meshes in ICEM and AM and it seems ICEM gives better quality in addition to more control. Look at the leading edge mesh.

ICEM tutorials

Hi all,

I will be thankful if you give me tutorials in ICEM mesh.

Thanks

ICEM mesh

Dear All,

Do you have tutorials in ICEM aerofoil meshing?

Many thanks in advance

guys, i am facing a similar problem for a flat bottom airfoil 2D ansys meshing. As you can see from the attached images, I've applied mapped meshing to the two square sections and edge sizing bias on all lines, with the semi-circular curve retaining the default no-bias but fixed number of divisions. i am able to map the right square portions successfully but the left half seems to go haywire for every tried combination.
any help is hugely appreciated!
thanks in advance.

Got it figured out! Edge sizing is the word. ;)

Sorry to bump up this old thread, but I am having trouble similar to those mentioned in here. What changes did you make to your Edge sizing, hans.siddharth (if you can still recall)?
