moving vertices over a surface
 
Hi all,

I am meshing a 3d turbine blade. I had a previously working 2d blocking for a similar case so my idea was to import the 2d blocking, associate it to the hub and play with it to ged a reasonebly good 2d mesh on the hub wall and then extrude the block, associate what left and do fine adjustments in 3d.

The problem is that once I associated the faces of the 2d blocks to the surface and the vertices to the surface they do not automatically snap on the surface.

When I move them they are floatin around in the full 3d space, unconstrained. they are then projected on the surface only if I manually click on "snap project vertices". Is that normal? Shouldn't they be bounded to lay and move only on the surface when associated (like vertices associated to cirves)?

Any help is really much appreciated.

Movement Constraints?
 
Yes, they should. Surface projected verts should move on the surfaces, curve projected ones should slide along curves.

If I had to guess, I would say that you have accidentally turned on your "movement constraints" in the Move Vertex DEZ... Turn those all off to return to the regular vertex association based movement.

unfortunately none of them is selected. Any other ideas on what could be happening?

Display the vertices with the "proj type" option on. Do you see little "s" or "c" letters next to the verts? These indicate the projection type and should be respected by the move...

How about is your surface turned on in the parts branch of the tree? They surfaces can be turned off, but the part need to be on. Move only associates with active parts. This can be handy when you want it to ignore surfaces in one part and move to another...

Not sure what else it could be, but at least you have a work around.

Vertices are correctly associated, they all have "s" (and "c" the ones associeted to bounding curves) and both the part and surface are on when moving them around but the problem still persists.

Sorry, I can't think of any other good reasons for this sort of behavior.
