Creating an external shell

Hello guys,

I have an .igs model of a vertical axis wind turbine and I want to split each blade in order to create an external shell covering an internal core. In Ansys DM is inserted as a solid body and I had an idea to create a surface from one of the finishing faces of each blade (or a line from the edges) create an inward offset line and extend it to the other side to create an internal volume and therefore a body in an other body. The problem is that offset command doesn't allow to select any kind of generated lines from the faces. Should I go manually and create a rough polyline out of the face and go with it or there is an other way in order to have better, automated and more refined results?
Sorry for any kind of bad terminology but I now started to use Ansys.
