[DesignModeler] Extra faces detected in geometry

Hey all,

I have been working on this issue for some time and I can't figure it out. The case is fairly simple. I wish to simulate a 2D stirred tank. To do this, I have a square which represents the fluid. Then there is a small rectangular zone inside it which will act as the impeller. Later I will specify fixed velocity in this zone.

Now to the issue. I create named selections seperately for the outer fluid zone and the impeller zone. Also a named selection for the outer wall. The issue is in addressing the interface between the impeller zone and the outer zone. When importing in FLUENT, it treats it like a wall, and I can't change it to interior.

It would be great if someone could help me out. Thanks in advance.

Did you subtract the inner zone from the outer zone? I mean that are you sure that you have two different zone: one impeller and the other as fluid.

Hey,

Yes, I am sure that there are two zones. I can name them seperately. I have created the geometry using Design Modeller and have kept the first surface as frozen while making the second surface. I have not subtracted the surfaces but rather created two surfaces from two sketches. I will check how subtraction can make a difference.

Subtraction is the only way to make an interface. Once you make the subtraction either Ansys meshing will automatically create an interface or you can create it from 'connections'.

You might aswell go on from here. The only thing you need to do is to form a new part from the two surfaces in DM (select both, right click, form new part)
Then in the Ansys mesher create two named selections from the two surfaces.
This way, there wont be any walls between the domains and you wont even need interfaces.
