Hi;

I am creating a CFD mesh and the inflation option does not work at all when using 'Patch Conforming'.
I have tried any combination of settings but still activating or de-activating
inflation has absolutely no effect on the resulting mesh. No error messages are displayed at all!
When switched to 'Patch Independent', inflation appears but an error message shows up: 'The mesh on the following entities might be valid but too coarse.' And no entity is listed!
The geometry is a thin 3D domain.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks

Should work, if you set it up correctly. Meshing isn't always easy and automatic, regardless of software...

Can you share the geometry? If it's a thin geometry then maybe your settings for inflation are invalid - ie your inflation layers doesn't fit within the thin structure

Thanks for your response Josef;

I am modeling an open channel flow. I'd like to simulate part of the flume in the presence of an obstacle (block) which is located at x=0.19 m.
The dimensions of the domain in different directions are:
x: 3 m, y: 0.5 m, z: 0.045 m
The obstacle is 0.038 tall (in the y direction) and 0.0225 m wide (in the z direction).
Inflation is applied to the bed (3 m x 0.045 m) and all surfaces of the obstacle.
The two sides of the domain (x-y planes) are symmetry planes.
Here is a close-up image of the domain:

I should also mention that the inflation is shown in 'Preview Inflation'.
But in 'Preview Surface Mesh' or when mesh is generated, no inflation exists!

ANSYS Meshing does not make the prisms until after it has made the surface mesh when using the Patch Conformal method, so that is why you only see a surface mesh when you select "Preview Surface Mesh".

Have you changed any of the inflation layer options from their defaults, are you using pre or post inflation? Are you getting any warning or error messages? Have you made the inflation layers so small you just cannot see them? Try making the entire volume mesh and view a mesh metric to see want element types it reports.

It should work if you see in the volume mesh,please check the inflation values,if its quite easy you can go with edge bias also
