Dealing with complex geometry imported form SolidWorks

2 Attachment(s)
Hello guys

I have just started to learn working with ICEM and I have a question regarding importing a geometry.
I have a complex geometry in SolidWorks. I have exported it as a STL file. When I import this STL file in ICEM, I can only see surface in entity tree (no curves).

I want to know how to block such a geometry and start meshing. you can see the images in attachment.

And After Select Line Body

Press OK

And You CAN convert Solidworks to anodther format STEP. or ....
and Similar to this method you can open Geometry in ICEM CFD

Hi Daniel,

STL files are just a bunch of triangles, and there is no scope to include points or curves. I would HIGHLY recommend steering away from using STL as the file format for transferring data. Instead, try some of the third party fileformats like Parasolid, Acis, STEP, IGES etc. I prefer Parasolid, but sometimes the writing (CAD) and reading (ICEM) kernels are different, so an older fileformat like STEP/IGES is sometimes more reliable.

Have a look at Simons post: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...-icem-cfd.html. Different fileformat readers require different licenses, so you may have to have a discussion with your local ANSYS sales office.
