Hello.my Msc thesis is modeling flow and heat transfer in pipe with some modified Twisted tape inserts. For starting point I have modeled standard twisted tape with design modeler.i used ansys meshing to generate mesh for my geometry.(meshed geometry is attached).i used mesh control(method-tetrahedrons(patch conforming)),but you know, i need your help if you can,to produce hex element instead tetrahedron because of high tetra element number and poor element quality. any help in ansys meshing or gambit will be really great.
thank you guys and experts.

Have you tried the multizone method, and setting the mapped mesh type to hexa? From what I have learnt there is nothing wrong with having tet cells, compared to having hex cells, as long as you except the element and node count in tet will be much higher than in a pure hex mesh. As long as you have good mesh statistics (good orthogonality, skewness, aspect ratio) then I wouldn't worry too much about having tet cells.

Hi Mr.CFD. Thanks for your reply and attention. I tried Multizone but it didnt help me although i had problem with choosing right source/target. atlast assembly meshing(cutcell) solved my problem and produced a high quality hex dominant mesh.
Warm regards.
Mahdi.

If you use cutcell then you're restricted to using Fluent. Just so you know.

Hi.Which software you use for simulation?
do you subtract tape from domain or not?
please explain you problem more.

i work with analysis workbench 15 and my problem is how to create the geometry( using design modeler ) of the twisted tape inside please explain in details (from a to z ) the steps of drawing the geometry and meshing it

hi dear
i try to mesh flow in pipe with twisted tape insert but it seems dificult, the program sends a massage about failed mesh at the twisted tape. note that i defined the tape as a solid and and i freezed it in the modular step. i want, if you dont mind, full steps of your case meshing. i use ANSYS workbench 2015.
thanks a lot.
