Switching to ICEM from GAMBIT

I'm trying to switch to ICEM, from Gambit in which I have a lot of experience in. In contrast, I have just started using ICEM, so I have one strait-forward question in my opinion: In Gambit, it was possible to create a structured 3D mesh in this way: -> create 2D geometry (points -> lines -> faces) -> create 2D mesh (edge mesh -> face mesh) -> extrude 2D geometry (with mesh) to 3D So in case you had structured mesh in 2D you get a nice structured 3D mesh. I would like to do the same in ICEM. I have a geometry with lots volumes(in Gambit) and would like to avoid assigning blocks to every point/line/etc. Is it possible to assign blocks in 2D and then extrude everything (like in Gambit)? tl;dr: Is it possible to extrude 2D geometry together with 2D blocks, so no further assignment of blocks (in 3D) is necessary? it seems to be possible. Anyway, I have another question: Is it possible to add blocks to existing part without overwriting the blocks that are already in that part? For example: I have 3 blocks and I want to create another: adding by surface overwrites existing 3 blocks and I only have one. Changing part name seems to have very little effect. I always split the blocks to "create" new blocks which i then could properly assign and delete the excess. i'm not sure if this applies to your case or not..

this thread might be of some help to you.. http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/cfx...-icem-cfd.html .. i would like to add some information if you want a 3D mesh try creating a 3D block from the start. It might look a bit complicated but you will get the hang of it pretty quickly.. Blocks cannot be extruded. only mesh can be extruded (as far as i know) cheers |
