Default Improve Quality of Tetra Mesh

Hi all,

I've created myself an unstructured mesh using tetra/mixed type. Now I'm trying to improve the quality of the mesh. I managed to increase the quality by about 0.1 by smoothing globally, however the quality is still pretty poor.

Now I'm trying to find a way to improve further, but am struggling quite a bit. Could anyone suggest any ways I could go about doing this?

Can you recommend how to go about refining it more? I have just improved by another 0.05 by increasing the density of mesh and smoothing again.

I am simulating heat transfer between hot water pipe (inner pipe) and cold water pipe (outer pipe)

From the tutorials I have access to none of them actually explain unstructured mesh refinement. I know I must use the edit mesh section but what tools to use I do not know. I have tried playing around with different things for hours but cannot find the correct way.

Please could someone help!

Just decrease the size. local refinement are done by using the density option.

Excuse my amateurness, but I have tried decreasing maximum size of all the parts and changing density but the quality seems to remain the same.

When you say 'just decrease the size', please could you explain what area to decrease?

If you decrease the size and nothing change, it means the size element is still big. You should take a look at the scaling of your geometry. Use the ruler and measure the distance between two points. then you will decide based on that distance. When I say decrease the size, it's in the global mesh paramaters. make sure you click on apply and then go too compute mesh. this is explained in the tutorials. You should start by the tutorials.

Hi geod,
I think you're quality is not so bad at all. The problem with your mesh is that it is extremely coarse.

another thing: if you are interested in thermal exchange between the tubes you'll need a prism layer of some sort on both the inner and the outer surface
