hello
I am trying to use the mechanical modal to mesh the wing skin I create. I first import the XYZ points of an airfoil and create a spline curve in solidworks. Then I loft a surface out of the spline curve so I got a wing skin. Then I import the wing skin into workbench. However, it turns out that the mesh ends up a failure every time. The edges are not smooth and there are holes and cracks everywhere. Anyway, the mesh looks very very bad. one of the error mesh suggest me to use virtual topology but I don know how to use it. Does anyone know how to solve this problem or any other approach so mesh the wing skin? Thanks |

You need to use a particular type of polyline in order to "fit" the points very closely (without making sharp edges). I don't know the exact command in Solidworks. I use CATIA, wich is far better than Solidworks for surface managing. If you want to have a better mesh, in this case, I suggest to use the "patch independent" option to shape the mesh around the body less precisely, but with better quality. However let me have a look to your geometry, maybe I can put you in the right direction.... |

Hi,
Thanks for your reply Solidworks actually automatically fits the points and draw the spline curve for me. The geometry is really simple and it is just a wing skin like a surface body. something like this: ( I don't have the geometry with me now so I have to google it. Just think it is hollow inside and with very small thickness) https://www.google.com/search?q=wing...A%3B1598%3B840 |

I understand
Please consider that you have to mesh a FLUID region outside the wing (the "negative"parts around the wing). At the end of the process you will have a solid block with a "wing shaped" hole in it. The surface should not be a problem for such simple geometry |
