Hello,
I am working on a problem and have to do a parametric study by varying one of the dimensions in the geometry. The problem that I am facing is I only have the mesh file and dbs file of the mesh created by someone before me. Is it possible for me to edit the geometry in GAMBIT? If anyone knows any other tool where I can edit the geometry using only the mesh file? Adnan |

the *msh file won't help you.
the .jou file (from dbs) may help you, it transcripts every step from your procedures (from geometry to mesh)

Thank you for the reply Max
So I guess I would have to use the dbs file. Delete the mesh. Change the geometry and remesh it to get my desired output. |

Here, I have two questions. How can to use .jou file until I understand every step from my procedures in Gambit? How to create .jou file from .dbs file? I am grateful for your help. Best, Amir |

I think you have to recreate your modell from scratch.
You will see a *.jou file Once you have it you can "replay" your steps by loading the journal file

I had a question: I could create a new face in the geometry. However, when I go ahead with the meshing I receive a fatal error. The possible reason that I believe is the mesh for the new face has to be compatible with the existing mesh.
Would you be knowing a possible way I could resolve this? (Something like replicating the mesh structure in the new face similar to the previous meshing) Thanks Adnan |

what kind of error do you get?
how do you generate the mesh? from journal file, or from gui? Display some pictures for a better understanding

Thanks for the reply Max.
The error that I get is: A fatal error has occurred. It is not possible for GAMBIT to continue from this point. Please report this error immediately to your local FLUENT office or distributor. Additional instructions and error messages may appear in the window in which you started this GAMBIT Session. I am working on a previously meshed model. To edit my geometry I am using the meshed file (dbs file). I do have the jou. file in the same directory. The model has several faces in 2D. You can consider a 2-D rectangle and that I want to add another rectangular face along one of its dimensions. I created my new face but when I tried to link the new face with the already meshed face, I got the error. Is it not possible to edit the geometry to an already meshed geometry? Thanks Adnan |

The yellow lines are the new geometry added by me and the blue lines are the already existing geometry.

yellow lines mean you only have edge, no surface.
Now you have to pick the 3 yellow lines, and the missing blue for generating new surface.

I tried running a tutorial to see if I get a problem:
http://www.mne.psu.edu/cimbala/Learn..._flatplate.htm Even for this case, when I mesh the face I am faced with the fatal error. Seems there is some problem with the GAMBIT installation or version (2.4.6) that I am using. |

try to create a rectangle (50x10) as surface and mesh it
face create width 50 height 10 xyplane rectangle face mesh "face.1" map size 1
