ICEM CFX Primitive Regions Appearing after Smoothing

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

I'm meshing a geometry of a nasal cavity in ICEM 16.0. The tetrahedral meshing algorithm I am using is the Robust(Octree) method. After meshing I am using the Smooth mesh globally function until the majority of the elements are no longer in the 0-0.3 quality bracket.

Upon bringing the mesh into CFX-pre I noticed that some of the parts I had specified in ICEM had gone from the "Principal 3D Regions - Body" entity (ie were missing from the Principal 2D Regions list when I expand the mesh drop-down tab) and were added to "Other 3D Regions". This part is labelled Box in the attachment.

Additionally several new Primitive 3D items (each with a set of Primitive 2D regions) have been added to the "Principal 3D Regions" entity.

I have noticed I do not get this problem if I do not Smooth the mesh in ICEM before exporting the mesh.

I'd like to know why this occurs and how I can stop it happening as well as what these "Primitive 3D" and "Primitive 2D" regions are.

Attached is an image of the mesh drop-down menu from CFX-pre.

Hi Syble,

Have you solved the issue of these primitives and the other 2d regions ?
I am also facing the same issue

Thanks and Regards,
Malav
