Hi,

I modeled a structured surface in the top of my model (standard ahmed body). I´m having problems to generate the mesh. (See then model in attach).
I already have the results of the simulation without this structured surface. Now I would like to run another simulation with the same parameters but now with this structurated surface in the top of my model and compare the results. This triangular structure has 100 micrometers height.

Anyone has any hint?

Regards

What is the problem in meshing?

So, sometimes appears these error message "A software execution error occurred inside the mesher. The process suffered an unhandled exception or ran out of usable memory"

And sometimes this one "One or more entities failed to mesh. The mesh of the bodies containing these entities may not be up-to-date. However, meshing might be successful on the other entities". "One or more surfaces cannot be meshed with acceptable quality. Try using a different element size or virtual topology."

I tried to create a body of influence in this area of the structured surface (triangular) but the error persist...

Set method to 'patch independent method' and set the max element size which is 1/10th of minimum gap..
However it may need more memory..
Use Icem cfd..
2 options in icem cfd
1. Mesh a single slot and use translation periodicity
2. Mesh one surface with surface blocking and extruded mesh if the slots are through

I don't think that this is good idea to mesh such a small geometrical entities. Maybe you should use different approach.

Thank you shivasluzz I will try that...

Antanas... what different approach would you recommend?

I couldn't understand the geometry fully.. Is that a projection or blind slots or through slots?

Oh is it like a fins projecting outside?

Oh.. Ok..Going to do cfd analysis? I mean you want to mesh this geometry as it is or you want to mesh the surroundings?

I did a farfield.. than used boolean (subtract).. So I´m meshing the surroundings...

So in the surrounding, those areas will come as a trapezoids... Better to isolate that region then reduce it to single trapezoid, then do blocking, then translate blocking, then merge the blockings through merge topology and convert to mesh..

If you are not experienced with structured meshing, then do similar thing..
1. Isolate
2. Reduce to single
3. Mesh it
4. Translational periodicity for full mesh
5. Merge all meshes

Sorry, but I´m not familiar with this.. I´m using Ansys Meshing... I don´t have ICEM. It´s possible to do with Ansys Meshing?
What do you mkean with isolate? Blocking? Translate Blocking? I think I´ve never seen this in Ansys Meshing panel....

Oh.. All those terms are related with icem cfd structured meshing...
I forgot is there any periodicity or symmetry option in ansys meshing or not.. If there then reduce your model, mesh it and use the periodicity or symmetry option.. (this will save time, memory and effect than meshing the full geometry at once)

Even if not there, reduce the model and mesh and I'm cfd software you can replicate your reduced model to full model by transform mesh options

But I have already reduced to half... because there is just one symmetry plane...
