ANSYS Workbench Meshing Views
 

Hopefully a pretty simple solution here

I have a wing inside my fluid body, and I need to apply some mesh controls. However, I want to view my body as seen by the photo "Pathfinder 1". However, when I go to mesh the part and view the mesh I get the view seen by "Pathfinder 2". How can I fix my mesh view so that I only see the faces I want to see?

You would need Named Selections in geometry module to select the faces beforehand, whichever are not visible after meshing.. apart from that, to apply controls you could always click the Geometry view and select layers accordingly.. however i would still suggest naming the surface selections.. To see the result of your applied controls you could section the mesh and observe.. Thanks.

So is this not the same as providing named sections in the mesher? because I have done this but it didnt seem to do anything.

Also, since I am doing a direct import from solidworks, I may not have that option ( I am trying to avoid the DM as I am better at SW, but if it is unavoidable, I am sure I could do it).

Well it's the same thing.. i suggested to use DM assuming one of the problems you're facing is to not being able to select the faces due to mesh overlay... i guess it's worth using DM as there's an option to divide the whole body/ single part into 2 surfaces/ bodies.. can't recall the whole procedure from top of my head but i believe this could be done and then domain could he hidden in mesher to see the wing mesh.... else, sectioning is probably the only way here to have some idea about the quality..

I tried that as well, but sectioning is only giving me a portion of the wing, and it is still very tough to see the quality of the mesh without seeing the surface.

I know that there is an option somewhere in Ansys so that you can see the surface mesh of a selected named section, and nothing else. I have seen a couple videos on youtube where this happens. But every time I select one of my named sections after it has been meshed, the mesh is hidden. When I toggle the button the toolbar "show mesh" it shows the mesh of the entire part rather than the named selection.

Its just very irritating because this is not even a meshing problem, its an options problem. I just do not know where to find it or how to fix it.

So I guess my new question would be:

Why cant i view my part this way?
