Importing solidworks geometry into ICEM
I am brand new to working with ICEM so this may be a silly question, however, after importing my solidworks file (a simple parallel plate flow chamber) into ICEM using a parasolid format, ICEM registers it as a single surface rather than 6 individual surfaces/faces of a rectangle.. Any reason why this is happening? I'm assuming it is something simple, but I am at a loss. This is preventing me from distinguishing between the faces when adding inlet/outlet boundary conditions.
Thank you. |
Why use parasolid as an intermediary file format? Try a direct import of the .sldprt in ICEM (File -> Import model -> then choose SolidWorks from the drop down menu). This should offer you more options on what to import and how (surface bodies, solid bodies, lines etc).

I've tried that also, but the same problems occur no matter what settings I use. ICEM sees it as a single surface rather than 6 faces, so after the mesh is completed and the mesh file is imported into fluent, there is no way to apply inlet/outlet b.c.'s since I can't distinguish between individual faces.

Can you post your SW file here? If it's a simple 2D thing you can make some edges or split surfaces in ICEM too.

Sorry for the extremely late response. Anyways, it wouldn't let me attach a solidworks file itself but here is a screenshot of the geometry in question.

This doesn't really help. Upload the file to dropbox/google drive and post a link here.

Here you go, both the sldprt file and stl file. |
I don't know where you ran into a problem. The model imports into ICEM without any problem. I just clicked File -> Import model -> selected Solidworks and navigated to a folder. Since I first checked the file in SW I knew it was in inches so I just selected Inches as the units on the bottom of the import dialogue box.

Yea i'm not sure what was the problem, every time I imported the file, it showed it as a single face. Could it be that I have a student version of solidworks? Either way, thank you for the help.

SolidWorks did warm me that it was an educational version of the file, but it placed no restrictions on it and import went without problems.
