[GAMBIT] mesh generation and geometry creation packed bed reactors

Hi

Could anyone share tutorials on how to create a packed bed reactor ( spheres arranged in a cylinder) and how to mesh the same.

*create your reactor without sphere
*create one sphere and place it on its right position (first level)
*create another sphere on same level by using copy tool
*create all aother spheres for same level with same technic.
*once the level is accomplished, create a group with all your spheres which belong to this level, and duplicate the level in the axial direction (x times).
*Once your geometry is ready you need to extract fluid domain with boolean tool

Thank you for the update. But I read somewhere that placing the spheres one over the other touching each other would cause meshing issues..Or shoudl i place them untouched and arrange them in that case

yes it will,
Just avoid placing spheres tangential each other

if I want to have some arrangement like HCP, then one layer has to be tangential to other right.

In that case should i give a small orientation of say 1 degree to that layer..Do you mean it to be so.

don't know what HCP is.
i don't know exactly what you want to do, but I can only confirm, that tangential spheres will generate error while meshing.
I would try to mesh your reator with only 2 spheres tangential.
You will see the issue.
There is also a tool in Gambit for cleaning sharp angle.
You may try it, maybe it will fix the issue. But you need to do it, once you fluid domain is extracted, because the result of cleaning tool generate virtual geomtry.
And boolean operation (for extracting fluid domain) only work with real geometry.
