Geometry-Air Domain

Hello,
I have a complex geometry, where I want to simulate the air flow within the cooling channel of a drilling tool. Attachment 47483 I want to simulate only the air flow within the cooling channel and not exterior to the cooling channel. how to delete the air domain, which does not belong to the cooling channel ? Does this make physical sense ? Since I am only interested in the temperrature profile of the tool at the outlet. this is a CHT type CFD application. In either DesignModeler or ANSYS MESHING, can you pick the volume of the cooling channel? I mean, do you have a "body" that occupies only the cooling channel? If yes, you just have to "suppress" the other bodies and you will be left with only the body you are interrested to simulate.

Nope, unfortunately, I directly got the .stp file for my project and I do not have that stored as a body. In that case, suppressing was a real good way out. I will try to look into the meshing module. |
So, in Design Modeler you Create->Import External Geometry File... then pick your STP file, then press Generate?

there is just 1 body then. Don't you have a CAD of sorts, where you can import it and then subtract it from a cylinder.
Or I guess in design modeller you can model a cylinder and then subtract thad body. I believe, there is somethong like that even in the mesher. There are a bunch of tutorials, multibody domain is the word(s). Shows how to make one solid inside the other one. The most convenient way is use a CAD program. Stuttgart, ey, Viertele-Schlotzer. edit: there is a forum www.cad.de. I reckon, someone in there would extract what you want,if you are able to upload your stp file |

Pick the 2 edges I highlighted in red then create surfaces:
Concept->Surfaces From Edges then try to fill the cavity: Tools->Fill, choose "By Cavity" Hopefully this will work.:) |
It did not work. But I used Solidworks and managed to use surface commands to fill up the material and Export it.
I could not get the exact Profile since the cooling channels had a complex geometry. But the model works. But, it could not recognize the Interface in the CFX pre-processor. :P Hope,it gives convergence. ! |

Nope, sweep does not work. I have the outlet a curved surface. So, sweep does not work.
I found out a way: 1. Solidworks. - Use offset surfaces, offset entities, fill the surfaces, use surface knit with high GT for Gap. and it works. !! 2. Rhyno can also be used. ! |
