Default ICEM: Periodicity errors after importing mesh in Fluent

Hi there,

I encountered a strange problem and I have no idea what's the cause: I created a mesh for a blade simulation with a periodic boundary on the upper and lower part. I set up the periodicity in ICEM and connected the periodic vertices. The ICEM mesh check doesn't show any problem - including periodicity. After importing the mesh to Fluent and performing a mesh check I get an error message for a bunch of faces.

Periodic face is not pointing to the right shadow

The periodic type of the bc in Fluent is translational.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I put the files into a zip-Folder.

Btw: I started the calculation for different angles of attack. The calculation converged and the periodic boundary seems to be okay. Nevertheless the encountered error makes me feel discomfortable.

First of all your procedure and meshing / blocking are perfect. congrats.

ok. i found the problem.

1. you have to put two boundaries for periodic condition. let say per1 and per2.

2. define them as periodic conditions in boundary conditions panel.

3. Output mesh.

4. Read mesh in fluent and every thing is set.

Thanks

Hey Far,

you are my hero! This works – finally now errors in the mesh check. Thanks a lot!

But it's really strange: I made a mesh for another blade configuration a couple of days ago without using two parts for the periodic boundaries and without having these problems. Anyway I will stick to your procedure from now on.
