Parasolid loosing quality when loading into ICEM

Hi all, I have been struggling to load in a high quality geometry file to ICEM. My geometry of an aircraft is kind of a pain; it's large (10 feet long, 5 foot wing span) but also has very small features (0.5 inch slots). Added to this is the fact that I am trying to grow a prism layer off of the surface with a base height of 0.0003 inches. This all means that I have to have a geometry file with very high tolerance. I have saved the geometry from Solidworks in a parasolid format (avalable here). If I loaded it up in Star-CCM, the seams are all closed, see first image. However, when I load the file into ICEM, some of the seams are open, see second image. Some of the gaps can be closed using Repair Geometry, but some can't and lead to errors in the prism layer.
So, here is my question: How can I load a high quality geometry file into ICEM? It was my understanding that parasolid (.x_t) offered the best fidelity, am I wrong? Is there some sort of work around? Thanks in advance! |
Have you tried reading SolidWorks .sldprt file directly into design modeler and then export as .agdb?
This usually fix my problems in ICEM:) |
You can try to play around with model tolerances under Settings -> Model/Units before importing the model. For better results you usually have to lower the default settings, especially triangulation tolerance. Like Daniel_Khazaei suggested, it is also a good idea to import the geometry in DesignModeler first and then import it in workbench native format in ICEM.

Try importing into ICEM by other formats ie STEP or IGES.
For starccm, parasolid is the prefered format |
So I tried loading the part file into design modeler first. I don't have the toolkit add on to directly load in a .sldprt file, my school doesn't have the license for that. I did try loading in a .x_t file to DM. It did help out a lot but it still is not perfect. Any chance some kind soul could load this .sldprt file into DM, save it as .agdb, and send it back to me? I would eternally be in your debt!!
