IGES/STEP Import - Line 'gap' / Merge points.
 
Hello,

I have a wing profile and far-field sketch in AutoDesk Inventor. I have exported it as both IGES and STEP files. When importing to ICEM CFD the sketched lines are imported as curves like planned...

...BUT, the curves doesn't seem to be connected to each other. 'Linked' curves have different end points and acts like there is a gap.

I've been trying to have the points merged but I can't seem to find the trick. Any ideas?

I have repeatedly struggled with this problem, too. Try importing the file as a parasolid (.x_t). Also, you can use Designmodeler in Ansys Workbench to import the geometry and then directly export it to ICEM as an .agdb file. These seem to help, sometimes. I feel like ICEM just has a really hard time with geometry tolerances. I have tried loading the same file into Star-CCM+ and ICEM. ICEM's had a lot of disconnected curves and surfaces while Star-CCM's did not. If you do find some helpful answers, please share them!

Ok after loading your file into ICEM, I don't quite understand where you are having problems. You can use "Concatenate/Re-approximate Curves" to link your curves together. I could see no visible discontinuity between the curves and/or their points, but you will have to zoom very close to some of the curves to see all of them, esp. on the outlet of your FF.

BTW, make sure to run through some of the 2-D tutorials, read the stickied post on the main ICEM thread, and here are some other training docs. Oh and the little question mark help button? its a great resource! Hope it helps!!

I couldn't figure this out. I never seemed to be able to create a surface from those curves. I ended up by drawing inside the geometry inside ICEM.

Thanks for letting me know of the "Concatenate/Re-approximate Curves". :)
