jkptz7 is on a distinguished road
Hi everyone!
I'm trying to model a wing for my senior design class in CFX to get lift and drag and all that good stuff, but I'm having problems. What I've done so far:

In SolidWorks:
1. Model the solid body of the wing
2. Extrude a rectangular fluid domain around the wing and subtract the wing from it
3. Save fluid domain as a .sldprt file (although STEP and IGES have the same problem)

In Ansys:
1. Import fluid domain and create named selections in DM
2. Try to mesh
3. Mesh fails outright or sits at "Modeling edges for part" forever
4. If the mesh fails, I can see that Ansys is trying to fill the joints within the wing with mesh and has somehow deleted (or at least ignored) the leading edge (please see picture below)

Next I tried:

In Ansys:
1. Import solid wing geometry (with no fluid domain) into DM
2. Extrude fluid domain and create boolean subtraction to get fluid domain
3. Try to mesh (same problem)

I did notice that in DM if I make a cut-plane through the fluid domain, the space between the wing surface and the walls of the domain isn't filled in (please see second picture). Would that indicate that Ansys doesn't realize that it supposed to be filled with a fluid? (Just guessing here)

If anyone could help me, I'd greatly appreciate it! Here's the link to a google drive with the wing geometry and fluid domain, if that helps.

Thanks!
James

I have deleted your posts on the other forum.

Have you done the geometry and meshing tutorials? They are available on the ANSYS customer webpage. They show how to do the basics.
