Hi All,

I apologize in advance if I picked the wrong section of the forum.

Anyway I am Ansys newbie. I am struggling to import a txt data file into Design modeler.

I have created a NACA airfoil data file through AIRFOIL TOOL online, with a close trailing edge, of 100 points. I have transferred the data into Excel, splitting into the columns and created this format :

#Group #n.point #x #y #z
1 1 -1 0 0
1 2 0.999013 0.000119 0
1 3 0.996057 0.000476 0
1 4 0.991144 0.001067 0
1 5 0.984292 0.001883 0
1 6 0.975528 0.002918 0
1 7 0.964888 0.004158 0
1 8 0.952414 0.005591 0
( I have reported only the first 8 points)

In total have 5 columns.

I have saved the the file in txt format, as all the tutorials suggest.

Also I have had a training session few days ago and I m following the same procedure of the trainer, producing apparently the same txt file he produced but I am not able to create the geometry whilst if I import his file everything is of course fine.Looking at the two files they seem to me exactly the same, with the only difference due to different airfoils.

I do : Concept--> 3D curve-->coordinates file.

I keep getting this Error: Error Reading coordinates file.

Could anyone help me.

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you in advance for any reply.

Regards

The txt file must be saved as ANSI not UNICODE(it saves like that by default)

Hi Santuzza,

Try this :

  • Put comment # at the beginning of each column( such as #x, #y etc)
  • The last row must be 1 0 that means erase the column relative to x,y,z coordinates because they are the same of the first one( I am assuming that you have created an airfoil with closed trailing edge)
  • Save the file as ANSI not unicode.
Let me know if you keep on facing the same problem because sometimes could depend on the cell formatting in Excel

Dear Antonio
I have the same problem, and did what you said, but again not solved. I attached the file.
