Hello,
I am triying to resolve an electric motor with Fluent.
I am using a quarter of the entire model to reduce it.
I have meshed without problem the body using the automatic mesh, but the fluid domain takes for ever (already 5h) and wont get over the "Generating mesh for solid" "Checking edges for part".
I am not ansys expert, and have looked every whrere for a solution, but haven't found anything.
I join an image of my problem in design modeler

thanks in advance.

Most probably your part is failing to mesh and the mesher is trying multiple retries to get a successful mesh.

Questions:
1. What size function are you using.
2. What is your defeaturing tolerance and min size

I recommend you to set "Number of retries" to 0. You can find this parameter under Mesh details in Advanced section. If the mesher is failing it will fail faster and thus you will be able to debug the model quicker.

Hello,

I was using all in default. Now I've suceeded a mesh with Cutcell method and no refinement, but i don't think its a good mesh:
Jacobian Ratio:
Min -100
Max 71
avr 1,13
s desviation 0,7

With this configuration the mesh was made in no time(5min) so obviously there was a huge error in the last try.
I don't realy realize what i've done nor if the mesh is correct but i'll try to continue.
If you have some advice i'll be very gratefull.
Thanks in advance.

Is it possible for you to share the model?
What version of ANSYS are you using?

hi,
sorry for the late reply.
Yes there is no problem for that, but i would rather send it to you in a PM.
Also, i'm using Ansys 15.

Hi again,
so i did made a mesh at last with cutcell as mentiones before, but apparently is not respecting my symmetries and so then in fluent it doesn't work the definition of my periodic boundries.
So i came back and can't find how to make it work. As i've said i'm not expert in meshing(or more acuratly i have no idea) and i don't know how to proceed right now.
Tests i've done:
-reduce the defeaturing tolerance
-reduce the size of elemets
-curvature/proximity and curvature and proximity

lots of other combinations but no luck.

The problem seems to be the contact between my fluid and my solid. The solid mesh is perfect, but the mesher gets stuck meshing the fluid and tells me it was not possible to mesh it.

I'm now going to try with tetrahedrals in the surfaces.

Any suggestion?

I' going to post my model

thanks in advance

Well,
Still in the same, i've figured out where is the problem, but still can not fix it.
(I attach the photo of the three parts that cause problems).
If i mesh every piece separated is ok, it's just the interaction of this three pieces that causes problem.
"The mesh faces on the following topological surfaces may intersect with mesh faces on other topological surfaces in the model, Please use different mesh size, virtual topology or correct CAD geometry."

I've acomplished a mesh with the assembly method, but i can not put the symmetry("symmetry is ignored").
