Hi,

Basically, I want to know how to assign certain regions of a simple 2D IGES/STEP geometry file, so that ANSYS FLUENT can understand that I need multiple cell zones.

Please be detailed in this, because I've been looking for the answer (I think it's pretty straight forward but you got to know where to look first...) for a very long time and it's getting frustrating.

I've also came across with a very famous pdf (a Facebook link) , but I still couldn't figure out what is that special set of buttons I need to click to create a separate cell zone.

Please help, I would really appreciate it. I'm also thinking of writing a super simple guide for newbies like me to survive the complexities of ANSYS.

/* Answer */

So basically to create a new material,

1) go to 'Geometry Tab', and click create body.
2) Type in the name of the material, and using the 'centroid of 2 points', and select the lines that encapsulates the material. Mouse middle button to accept. It will appear on the 'Parts' list.
3) Go ahead with blocking under 'Meshing', as per normal for mesh parameters.
4) With the blocks created, go to the list of 'Parts' on the drop down menu, select the part material created in 1), and right click to get 'Add to Part'.
5) Under the selection (some icons), go for blocking method, and select the blocks that you want to be the material you have stated in 1). Middle mouse button to confirm.

So that's it for 2D! Material created.

/* Answer */

Cheers,
Simon

I'd like to thank you for sharing this information.

It is really helpfull to find this kind of tricks. I was fighting with my geometry because I needed various fluid zones. Finally i found this and i can go ahead

ICEM is a great program but full of dark areas...

Regards
