2D canard geometry inflation error [Unsolved]

I am meshing a 2D canard main wing geometry with a symmetrical airfoil. I construct the mesh via the meshing tool. I have a rectangular region of a hard mesh of small element size between the canard and main wing. I define an element size for the canard and main wing surface, as well as a sphere of influence for even more accuracy that extends to to 10% the chord length of the main wing and canard (two different sphere of influences placed at the center of each wing). I then set a total layer thickness for the main wing- very good stuff. But then i get this error when I do the same for the canard-

Shell inflation failed, possible due to edge imprinting or connecting the inflation mesh to the rest of the mesh. Please try to reduce the total height of the inflation layers and see if that helps. I will post progress here if any. Any help is appreciated.

Ive managed to make it work by removing the element size sizing on the canard surface. Still not sure why the smaller geometry affects this and it decreases the structural accuracy of the mesh outside the boundary layer.

Bump. Still looking for a better method

Not much progress still. Really curious as to why this happens. Any help is appreciated
