Dear all,

I have a tricky problem to expose :

I would like to perform OF simulations starting from FLUENT data. However, I only have the .cas (also .dat) file. Indeed, the mesh was modified inside FLUENT (refinement, adaptation of cell size, etc), then the .msh file doesn't match with the simulation results.

Here, I have two possibilities :
* recover the .msh file from one of the ANSYS softwares
* convert directly the .cas file in OpenFOAM mesh.
I tried both of them without success for the moment.

As it is the relevant location of the thread, I will talk here about the first possibility.
Apparently it is possible to open directly a .cas file in icem or gambit, and then to save the mesh in a .msh file.
I tried with both softwares, but I get errors in all cases during the reading. I suppose it is due to the modifications on the mesh, performed inside FLUENT.

Here the ineternal error obtained in icem :
Not able to open file. Read error: wanted 1 bytes, errno 11
backend process has exited abnormally

Here the error obtained with gambit :
RAMPANT file to FIDAP7 file
File contains hanging node structure
Hanging nodes not supported

Does anyone have a suggestion for that ?

Thank you for your help.

Best,

Mat

Try to save your .cas file to ASCII format in Fluent and then convert to OF format.

Dear all,

I would like to try also with workbench.

So, I created a mesh system and I imported the .cas file. Then, the imported mesh is checked. Is it possible now to export a mesh file from that ?
There is no File -> export in workbench ??
I don't manage neither to open the default meshing tool of workbench (maybe one can export the mesh from there?)

Hello,
I know this post is old. But if you were able to solve this problem, can you please post the solution here. I am also facing the same problem as I am trying to import the .msh Fluent file in ICEM.

Thanks,

Harshal

Hello,
I tried importing the .msh fluent file in ICEM using the Import from Fluent option. However, I am getting the same error.

Could you kindly guide me through this step ?

Thanks,

Harshal

Hello,
I tried importing the .msh file from Fluent into ICEM using the Import mesh- From Fluent option.

In ICEM one can import either the geometry (Import Geometry) or mesh (Import Mesh-Import from Fluent)

When I try to import mesh from Fluent I get the error Not able to open file: Read error wanted 1 byte errno 11.....

How did you import the case file ? It is neither Geometry nor Mesh. I don't know from where I can import .cas file.

Thanks,

Harshal

Hello,
I did create a case file in Fluent. However, the method you suggested (File- import from Fluent) is not available to me. As I said for import there are two options: Import Geometry and Import Mesh- Import from Fluent.

Which ICEM version are you using ?

Thanks,

Harshal

I've tried Ghazlani M. Ali's method ,for some kinds of fluent cases it works well ,but error occurs for particular cases.

Open your .cas file in FLUENT (It has to be in Meshing Mode) and then save it as mesh (.msh).

As suggested in above posts I tried exporting a 3D .cas file in meshing mode in fluent, but I get an error saying 'This is an educational executable, and can only be used \n with meshes containing less than 500000 cells or 50000\n unmeshed faces.'
also in case my .cas file is 2D I don't get an option for opening the file in meshing mode.
