Duplicate Mesh
Hi,
I have meshed a segment (30°) of a tube with Icem. It looks like a piece of a cake. Now I would like to have a mesh of 60° of the tube by mirroring my 30°-mesh and merging it with the existing one. Is there any simple and fast method to do so? Because of the mirroring the cells will fit perfectly together. It doesn't even have to be in ICEM. Maybe already in Fluent? I don't want to rebuild the whole mesh, because it is quite complex. Thanks |
In ICEM: In the "Edit Mesh" tab, click on the "Transform Mesh" icon, which has a "Mirror" option. Make sure that you select the "Copy" option, and that you select all the cells (including the volume elements, not just the surface ones). Afterwards, use "Merge Nodes>Merge Meshes" tool to join the two copies together (which will join the nodes at the interface) and export as normal.

If we do that, does it make the "merge mesh" step later un-necessary? Thank you Vishal |
I did it but got this text in the Fluent-TUI:
" Cell Centroid is xc 0.339507 yc 0.013958 zc -0.005494 WARNING: no face with given nodes. Thread 46, cell 346532 Clearing partially read grid. Error: Build Grid: Aborted due to critical error. Error: Build Grid: Aborted due to critical error. Error Object: #f " What to do? |
It worked, thanks a lot.
For everybody: don't forget to delete the shells at the face that is inside of the volume after mirroring. (=mirror face) |

Hi Star. There are two ways to deal with the mirror shell elements, after the mirror has been created: 1. In ICEM, declare the surface as "interior". This will make the flow pass through the shell elements, but you can still use the part for post processing- if you think . 2. Delete the mirror (common interface) outright. This is an easier and probably better option. Tip: Before importing the mesh in FLUENT, please check the mesh for any errors/problems in ICEM itself. "Edit Mesh"- "Repair Mesh". This will help eliminate problems in ICEM itself.
