Duplicate faces in Spaceclaim
Hi Guys, hope you are doing great.
I am modeling a helical pipe encased in a solid medium (backfill). The medium is surrounded by soil. The pipe has water inside. I created a hollow pipe and then imported it to Ansys (SpaceClaim). I then created a cylinder surrounding this pipe and used the merge command to get a cylindrical backfill around this pipe and water (body inside the helical pipe). The backfill is surrounded by cylindrical region of soil. When I take this model for meshing I run into problems with contact regions. I looked at my geometry again and when I use Repair>Fix>Duplicates, there are 11 duplicate faces. If use automatic repair, the backfill disappears. Is there any way to avoid these duplicate surfaces?:confused: |
don't create pipe separately, use a solid cylinder and use it as a pipe with fluid thru it and then create sand around it.
it will be really helpful if you can post some pics and explain further so I can suggest right solution |
Hi Kapi,
Thank you for you reply. Here is the image of the geometry: https://image-store.slidesharecdn.co...a0d-medium.png I looked at through https://support.ansys.com and found that duplicate faces in Spaceclaim are fine if there are touching faces. The contact problem I was having during meshing was caused by the contact tolerances set too high. I think reducing this fixed the problem. Still keeping my fingers crossed though for the next steps. Let me know what you think. |
