How to import mesh from abaqus into a static analysis in ANSYS

Hi,
I've got an abaqus mesh input file, where each element has different thickness. I would like to do a static analysis in ANSYS WORKBENCH 14 using the mesh file that I already have. I want to mesh my model with the mesh that I already have coded in a .inp file in abaqus. I want to do it for different geometries. How can I do it for the exact same geometry? And for other geometries? I guess I can populate any geometry with an already done mesh, just the coordinates of the nodes and the element size will change. Am I correct? Thanks in advance, Best regards, AndradeSilva |

Hi Andrade,
You can import Abaqus input files (*.inp) directly into Ansys Workbench using the FE Modeller tool. Drag and drop it in the WB project, rmb >Add Input Mesh > browse > select Abaqus Input (*.inp). Once selected you can either link it directly to the Analysis model (reuse the mesh directly) or to the Analysis geometry (this will convert the mesh data to geometry data) and you need to remesh it in Ansys. I’m not sure if the feature was already available in V14 but with later versions it works. Have fun |

Well I can’t really detail more the procedure to import the Abaqus input file (.inp) into Ansys for a static structural analysis:
Quote:
Looking closer at your request regarding the different geometries, you cannot “populate any geometry with an already done mesh”. The mesh is used to discretize your geometry and the mesh is a result of the geometry discretization not the other way around. You can still use tools like RBFmorph for Ansys (add-on tool) to manipulate mesh directly (scale / offset / etc) but it’s rather expensive. So you’ll be better of repeating the previous import procedure for every new geometry having its own mesh. Have fun |
